Our History

Welcome to the Stammtisch Store! This online version of the Stammtisch Pork & Import store makes it so that we can send a little piece of Germany to your front door.

We are the co-owners of Zum Stammtisch Restaurant and Stammtisch Pork & Import Store, Werner and Hans Lehner. Our father started this business in 1972 with a dream of offering his local community the best German food this side of the Atlantic. Since the 1990’s, we have been following this dream, though we have expanded it a bit.

Known for amazing food and service, Zum Stammtisch is rated among the best German restaurants in New York. The authentic meals and imported beer make for a mouth-watering combination. We think our father, and his original recipes still served today, achieved his dream.

In 2011, we expanded our family business to include the Stammtisch Pork & Import store. We wanted to offer the people in our neighborhood the products they missed from home or introduce them to the products that reminded us of our German heritage. Quickly, we began to see our neighbors embracing this idea and flocking to the store to pick up wurst, cheese, Haribo, and even Schwarzkopf shampoo!

Now, we invite customers from all corners of the U.S. to shop at our online store. Let us know if you have any questions or feedback! We would love to hear from you.

Danke schoen!

The Meaning of Zum Stammtisch

Our restaurant and business is all about family, so it’s only fitting that the name reflects that.

The word “zum” in German translates to “to go”. Stammtisch is a commonly used word in Germany to indicate a familiar gathering place. Translated to English, “stamm” means family or tribe and “tisch” means table. Together, Zum Stammtisch means “to the family table”.
